The issue is with all birds when they are perching they aren’t doing anything. That makes a fairly boring image, scroll past for a viewer. It has to be a unique image to survive a static picture: they do exist in fact I have one.

Way too dark

I have discovered one positive quality of it, sometimes an under-exposure captures all of the details. It is fairly easy to then edit them into a usable image.

it’s working; kind of.

They’re looking pretty rough around the edges but the Gulls have returned and are up for posing. its excellent practice to take photos of them as they are slow flying while into the wind and flaming rockets with the wind to their backs. The rough feathers don’t seem to slow them down.

editing still or again?

Does it pay off? From my perspective it does because it raises my awareness of what it takes to realize a truly great image. How much time to spend editing a photo? As long as it takes if it is worth the effort; and that is the trick. Realizing if the picture can even be saved is the first step; it’s imperative to recognize that.

still underexposed in the mid-day sun.

Once again I have discovered with it on close ups within 50 feet aren’t too terribly bad. But when I go beyond that further out I go the blurrier the image is, it will not focus correctly. I’m taking

Seagulls; today

I decided to post a few images of Seagulls today I have not posted any of them prior to this blog. It’s good to have a fairly large archive to look through comparing camera settings used on the best images. Too large of an archive with no organization can be a time sink or a searching nightmare.

Keep the sun and wind to your back

It is harder yet when they fly with the wind, I have learned not to attempt it. However when flying against the wind it stalls them a bit giving an advantage to the person behind the lens.

it’s humbling

I expect later in the afternoon, around 5:30 when the Sun begins to fade I should be able to reverse my procedure until it is too dark for my skills. I have not placed that plan into action as of yet but I will begin next week.
